Zimbabwe and South Africa will have another representative at next week’s PGA Tour Peurto Rico Open thanks to world number 87, Dean Burmester, receiving an invite to play at Coco Beach Club. Source : Sunshine Tour
Burmester receives an invite to the event thanks to some superb performances in the past year, and it’s something which has elevated him to a career high 87th in the Official World Golf Rankings.
The opportunity to play on The PGA Tour is a special one and it’s something Burmester wants to take full advantage of by hopefully getting an invite to play in the following week’s Shell Houston Open. If all goes as planned, Burmester could continue the trend and tee it up at the 80th edition of The Masters at Augusta National Golf Club.
Burmester said, “I hope I can get into the Shell Houston Open the next week. I want to get into the world’s top 50 and make The Masters.
Burmester will join fellow countrymen Thomas Aiken, George Coetzee, Retief Goosen, Rory Sabbatini, Tyrone Van Aswegen and Dawie van der Walt in Peurto Rico.
Branden Grace, Louis Oosthuizen and Charl Schwartzel will be teeing it up the same week at The World Golf Championship – Dell Match Play, a tournament Burmester will add to his schedule in the future, should he achieve his goal of getting into the top 50 in the Official World Golf Ranking.
The 80th playing of The Masters is shaping up to be one of the most openly contested, and one in which South African hopes look bright. Charl Schwartzel, Louis Oosthuizen and Branden Grace have already won this season and look to be in great form, and Burmester will be hoping a good showing in Peurto Rico can see him challenge for the green jacket.
