JOMO COSMOS EYE MUKURUVA

SOUTH African Premiership football side Jomo Cosmos are reportedly after Warriors and Dynamos goalkeeper Tatenda Mukuruva. BY SPORTS REPORTER

The young goalie had an outstanding season for Dynamos last year and has been fantastic for the Warriors, so it is not surprising that he is beginning to attract foreign suitors.

Reports from South Africa suggest Jomo Cosmos are interested in signing the player after impressing for the Warriors in the two Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Swaziland during the Easter holidays.

A source quoted by a South African football website, Soccer Laduma, who they claim is very close to the player, said Jomo Sono, the owner of Jomo Cosmos, has been watching the goalkeeper for some time and appears to be happy with what he has seen.

“He is still young. He is only 22 years and he has a great future ahead of him. Bra J likes him and the team wants to bring him on board for next season,” said the source.

“Of course, it will depend on the negotiations between Cosmos and Dynamos because normally Dynamos charge a lot of money for their players, but Cosmos are really interested in the player,” the source added.

Mukuruva had an outstanding season for Dynamos and was last year voted the league’s Best Young Player after guiding his team to a second place finish in the Premiership.

Nicknamed “Iker” after legendary Spanish goalkeeper Iker Casillas, Mukuruva produced a man-of-the-match performance as the Warriors earned a point away in Swaziland, making three heartstopping saves in the dying stages of the match.

He was equally solid when the Warriors hosted Swaziland in the reverse fixture at the National Sports Stadium.

If he joins the team, he will be reunited with former Dynamos and Warriors teammate Denver Mukamba, who is playing for the club. Another Zimbabwean, Charlton Mashumba, also plays for the South African league strugglers.
