HARARE – David Amm warmed up to the upcoming Golden Pilsener Zimbabwe Open by winning the Leopard Rock Cup hosted by the Manicaland Junior Golf Association on Thursday. BY SPORTS WRITER
Amm beat 48 other golfers in the 36 holes tournament following rounds of 73 and 78 while Justin Kerstin’s 75 and 77 saw him settle in second with Bekithemba Ndlovu following in third with rounds of 77 and 82.
The Chapman Golf Club amateur golfer capped off a fine weekend when he also won the Manicaland Junior Championships on Friday.
Amm together with Stuart Krog, Kieran Vincent, Tanaka Mhere, John Milazi and Tonderai Masunga received automatic entry into the Zimbabwe Open after finishing in the top five on the Zimbabwe Golf Association (ZGA) Amateur Order of Merit Standings.
More local amateur golfers could also qualify for the Golden Pilsener Zimbabwe Open via the pre-qualifier set for Royal Harare Golf Club today.
Commenting on the tournament in Hillside Golf Club, junior golf development stalwart Roger Baylis was impressed with the way the tournament has been organised.
The organisers of the event paid tribute to Trip Trans, Coca Cola Mutare, Fruit & Veg (Honeydew), Duggies Meats (Marondera) Mantanuska, Hillside Golf Club, Leopard Rock, Tyrone Plunkett, Peza Trust Chimanimani for making the tournament a success.
