Bryce McCabe and Teagan Moore were the leading South African players in the 2017 Zimbabwe Open qualifier at Royal Harare Golf Club with three-under-par 69s to their names. Source : Sunshine Tour
They were led by Zimbabwe’s Anyway Katembenuka whose low four-under-par 68 secured him the first qualifying spot while his compatriot Sheldon Steyn also made it as part of a four-man tie for fourth after a two-under-par round.
The event is held from 20 to 23 April and Katembenuka, among other Zimbabweans in the field, will want to make sure the title comes back to Zimbabwe following seven straight years of domination by South African players. Lyle Rowe is the reigning champion and other former champions in this field include Theunis Spangenberg, Jake Roos and Chris Swanepoel.
2015 champion Dean Burmester and 2014 winner Jbe’ Kruger are not in this field this year because Burmester is trying for a win on the European Tour following his Tshwane Open victory, while Kruger will be competing in the Asian Tour’s Panasonic Open in Japan.
